Mayors from across DeSoto Parish met for the first time in 2014, with the Village of Grand Cane hosting the event at Village Cuisine. Others attending the meeting included town clerks, the media and several members of the DeSoto Parish Police Jury. Newly elected DPPJ President Reggie Roe spoke to the group about the continuance in 2014 of the parish-wide mosquito abatement process, asking for the cooperation from each community. On Saturday, February 1, Logansport’s Krewe of Aquarius will host a Celebration Banquet or “Ball”, with the crowning of the 2014 Queen Nancy Zawodnik and King Dean Register. The presentation of the Royalty will begin at 6:00 PM, and conclude at 8:00 PM.

The capital murder trial of alleged child murderer, Brian Horn, will begin in February despite defense attorney’s attempts to be granted another continuance. Lead defense attorney Daryl Gold filed two motions to quash indictments as well as another to extend the scheduled trail date with District Judge Robert Burgess denying all motions
On January 9, the DeSoto Parish School Board met for their regular meeting. Officers were elected with Coday Johnston, representing District 6, being chosen unanimously to serve as the 2014 President. Tommy Craig of District 9 was elected Vice President, and Dudley Glenn chosen as Finance Committee Chairman
