Ninth Annual “Fifty Mile Trail of Treasures” to be Held Saturday, October 14

Do you have too much “stuff” in your house and you would like a chance to get rid of it while making a little extra cash? The Ninth Annual Fifty Mile Trail of Treasure, which is always the second Saturday in October, will be held on October 14 with a rain date of October 21. The path of the continuous yard sale begins with vendors setting up on Hwy 171 in Stonewall, where they will continue through Mansfield. Pickers and treasure seekers will then find their way down Hwy 84 through Stanley and Logansport, cross over the bridge into Texas with Haslam and Joaquin completing the journey. Or, you can reverse the trail and begin in Texas, according to your preference.

We all have things that others might be willing to seek out as Chris Gray lost his life, and two other DOTD employees were injured in January 2023, when the driver of a logging truck failed to yield in the work zone, hitting two dump trucks and devastating the lives of several families in a matter of moments.

their “treasure”. Keeping that in mind, we all have many unwanted or unused things that our homes overflow with. What better way to share them while making a little money on the side than to set up a booth on “the trail”! Items from baked goods to pets to collectibles to crafts are welcome. The old adage “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” seems to ring true with collectors as well as bargain hunters. The possibilities are endless on what you might find in this fifty-mile trek.

PAR’s Guide to What Yes and No Votes Mean to Constitutional Amendments on the October 14 Ballot

PAR’s Guide to What Yes and No Votes Mean to Constitutional Amendments on the October 14 Ballot

On Oct. 14 voters are asked to consider four amendments to the Louisiana constitution. The Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana (PAR) has released its PAR Guide to the 2023 Constitutional Amendments. This independent, nonpartisan review is designed to help voters understand the issues so they can develop their own positions on each proposition.

The Guide is educational and does not recommend how to vote. The Alta and John Franks Foundation and The Collins C. Diboll Private Foundation provided support for the report.

Here is a review of each amendment on the Oct 14 ballot.

Amendment Number 1 (Prohibiting donations to conduct elections) Do you support an amendment to prohibit the use of foods, goods or services from a foreign government or a nongovernmental source to conduct elections and election functions and duties unless the use is authorized by the secretary of state through policies established in accordance of the law?
