The Mansfield High School Lady Wolverines and Wolverines hosted district opponent Many on Tuesday, January 10, 2023. The fans in the Wolverines gymnasium were treated to an evening of basketball action that showcased the local talent. Both the Lady Wolverines and the Wolverines seized the district wins against the Lady Tigers and Tigers from Many.

Cooper Holmes was recently invited to the Powershowcase Home Run Derby in Miami, Fl, at the Marlins park where kids from 12 years of age to high school seniors from all the USA and some from other countries competed in thier age groups.

Cooper had one of the most impressive rounds seen in recent years for the 14U category. He hit 15 homers with most of them over the stadiums actual fence. The distance of 3 of his longest home runs were 460ft 468 ft the longest 475ft. Cooper brought home 4 awards. The Colossus of Clout the prestigious Babe Ruth Award for the longest home run. The most home runs in the preliminary round, most consecutive home runs, and the most home runs hit overall in his age group. Cooper is the son of Lamar and Kelli Holmes.

North DeSoto was looking to make history this week by advancing to semifinals for the first time ever. In order to do that they had the task of ending the Cinderella story run of the 28th seed Breaux Bridge.

Breaux Bridge received the ball. The Griffin defense showed up early and forced three and out and a punt. John Lewis got two first downs, but the drive stalled and they turned it over on downs inside the ten. Breaux Bridge got their offense moving and found the endzone after a long drive. The score was 7-0 with 4:52 left. The Griffin offense had an answer. Brian Banks got two first downs. Then Trysten Hopper got a first down on fourth down. Then Luke Delafield scrambled for a touchdown. He also ran in the two-point conversion. It was 8-7 with 3:03 left. Breaux Bridge was driving going into the second quarter.

After securing a round one bye, the Griffins were ready to get to work when they took on Cecilia in round two. A win would send them to the quarterfinals for only the third time in school history The Griffins received the ball. On the first play of the drive, Brian Banks took a huge hit and fumbled. Cecilia recovered. The defense was ready though.

Cecilia went three and out. They went for it on fourth and long and didn’t get the first down. It was turnover on downs.

The offense made up for their mistake this time.

Cole Cory got a first down. Followed by a Landon Falls first down. Then Luke Delafield found Landon Falls going down the sideline. They connected for a 44 yard touchdown. It was 7-0 with 8:30 left. The defense was still going strong.

Corbyn Cross and Jordan Milton combined to a get a sack.

The defense forced a punt but a roughing the punter penalty gave Cecilia a first down.

Cecilia attempted a field goal and missed.
