DeSoto Police Jury Passes Policy and Procedures Committee’s Recommendations

Article Image Alt Text

At the special meeting called by the DeSoto Parish Police Jury, the requirements drafted by the new Policy and Procedures committee were approved unanimously by the entire Jury. Only a few grammatical and spelling errors changed the final draft. The fee to obtain an event permit will still remain $250 but other stipulations have been added. Now organizers will be required to furnish an IRS certification, a valid landowner lease or contract, pay applicable taxes, location site plan, estimated attendance, a vendors’ list, a security and sanitation assessment.

The Jury did not stop any of the events that had already been approved. Several trail rides had been planned but only one took place in DeSoto within the last two week. Everything went well and there were no problems due to the organizer’s cooperation and crowd control on admission.

The Enterprise Celebrates Its 117th Year in Business

Article Image Alt Text

If you notice the top of the paper (the official term is the masthead) on last week’s edition, The Enterprise and Interstate Progress rolled over to Volume 118, Issue 1 on July 1, 2021. The Enterprise officially marked its 117th anniversary to begin its 118th year of publication. Our biggest change this past year was the relocation of the office. We had to leave our much-loved address at 202 Adams Street on the DeSoto Courthouse Square to move to our beautiful new office facility, located at 110 Welsh Street, still in Mansfield. We are situated behind the old Capital One building and across the street from Progressive National Bank’s drive-through. If you haven’t stopped by to see our new location, we’d love to have you come by for the grand tour of our beautiful “Lagniappe House: Home of the Enterprise”. It truly is a “little something extra” just like the name says.

DPPJ’s New Policies & Procedures Committee Lays Down New Rules

The DeSoto Parish Police Jury’s new Policies and Procedures Committee met to discuss and finalize the terms and conditions for getting a permit for an event. It will be enforced for all events parish-wide once it approved by the entire Jury with changes and modifications approved or rejected.

This committee was formed when it became obvious that a more thorough permit process was badly needed after the Grand Cane area Trail Ride went array, drawing thousands of people. The event site could not accommodate the crowd and the overflow spilled over into the village of Grand Cane, who was unprepared for a multitude of this size. Some of the negative happenings of the night included a person getting shot, property damage, and trespassing. One was arrested for allegedly pulling a gun on a DeSoto deputy.
