Books and Biscuits met March 7, 2017 at Nonnie’s Restaurant in Grand Cane and selected the books for the new reading list for the rest of the year. The Books and Biscuits Book club meets the first Tuesday of the month for a Dutch treat lunch and book discussion.

The Friends of the DeSoto Parish Library – Mansfield Branch will host their weekly book sale again this Friday. The group now has their own room, which has enabled the sales to be held on a regular basis. The Friends’ room is located at the rear of the newly renovated library, and will be open from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM during the sales.

The Mansfield Lions Club was glad to have Danielle Antoon Cobb as guest speaker at their regular meeting on February 28th.

Danielle is the Senior Community Manager of Relay for Life with the American Cancer Society for NW LA. Danielle shared with the members and guests about the Relay for Life event coming up on May 27, 2017 at Clista Calhoun Center. This is an annual fundraiser for the Cancer Society with a goal of $42,000.

The Rotary Club of Mansfield (LA) is raffling off a YETI Tundra 65 cooler, plus hundreds of dollars of YETI products. Winner takes all. The drawing will be March 4th at Marketplace Chevrolet. Tickets are $10/ each. Tickets can be purchased at the Mansfield and Logansport Community Bank offices, Marketplace Chevrolet in Stonewall and LaHood’s Mobile Homes in Mansfield.

Members from Bon Chasse Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution attended the Northwest District Patriotic Luncheon held in Natchitoches. Eight chapters from the district were represented with 80 in attendance. Brigadier General Robert Doughty, Retired was the Keynote Speaker. State Regent Zora M. Olsson gave greeting from the State.

Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle is pleased to announce the deputy of the quarter award for the 4th quarter of 2016. He wants to point out that these awards are to recognize deputies for their outstanding performance both on and off the job.

At the regular meeting of the Mansfield City Council on February 13, Mayor Curtis McCoy and the city aldermen recognized three hometown musicians, who recently won awards from the Zydeco, Blues and Trailride (ZBT) Association of Houston, Texas.
