Vehicle Showcase Features Tim Horn

Article Image Alt Text

Tim Horn said he had always been a car nut and was always looking through publications looking for just the right vehicle to restore. There it was. In a scrap yard in Mt. Home, Arkansas. He called and asked to see pictures of the truck and still went to Arkansas. The owner of the business was proud to sell him a rusted out shell of a 1954 Ford F-100 pickup truck. It must have looked pretty bad to someone who didn’t share in his vision because his wife wasn’t so sure she wanted this brought home to Shreveport.

Volunteer Firefighter Injured During Day Job

Kevin Lee, a volunteer firefighter for DeSoto Fire District #1, injured both of his legs while at work as a lease operator employed by Indigo Minerals.

Lee is a lifelong resident of Logansport. He graduated from Logansport High School. He has served since he was 15-years-old with DeSoto Fire District #1, which was formerly Logansport Volunteer Fire Dept. He is currently an Assistant Chief on the volunteer side of the department. In the past, he has served on the board of directions.

While at work on Sept. 10, Lee was descending a flight of steps from a production tank when he and felt the tendon on his left knee pop. As he firmly gripped on the handrails, he had the same thing happen to his right knee, causing him to fall down the remaining four steps to the bottom.

Using only his arms, he pulled himself a few feet to his truck. He managed to open the door and pulled himself up enough to get his phone. He called his coworker for help.

Cruisin’ in Grand Cane Presents Vehicle Showcase

Article Image Alt Text

Donald Garcie was a man with a strong sense of family and tradition. The 1978 Ford Lariat truck he entered in last year’s Cruisin’ in Grand Cane car show had small murals painted on the back quarter panels that honored his Indian heritage. The murals were painted with such detail that they were a show all by themselves. Garcie’s attention to detail, both in the artwork and the truck itself, resulted in him receiving two trophies—People’s Choice, voted on by the public, and 1970’s Decade Favorite.

Last October when Garcie came to Grand Cane for the show, he had just been released from the hospital diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. He never gave up on his faith or his family until his passing this past summer.
