Funeral services celebrating the life of Joe Leamon Cooper were held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 20, 2023, at Jenkins Funeral Chapel, 601 Franklin Street, Mansfield, Louisiana with his nephew Rev. Charles Trim of Bossier City, Louisiana officiating. Burial followed at Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Keithville, Louisiana.

Joe was the youngest son of fifteen children born to the late Roy and Ola B. Cooper on January 10, 1949, of Benson, LA and entered into eternal rest on January 6, 2023, in Mansfield, LA. He accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized and fellowshipped into the Union Spring Baptist Church in Catuna, Louisiana under the pastorate of Reverend J.J. Jones.

Joe was educated in the DeSoto Parish public school system graduating from All Saints High School, Pelican, LA in 1966. He attended Grambling College and enlisted in the United States Air Force and served honorably until 1972. The remainder of his professional career was spent employed at IBM in New Jersey and in Colorado and at AT&T in Nevada.

Upon retirement, Joe returned to Louisiana and settled in Mansfield where he later joined New Elizabeth Baptist Church of Mansfield, LA.

Preceding him in death are his parents Roy and Ola B. Cooper; brother Leroy Cooper, and four sisters: Mercedes Belton, Vera Reed, Mamie Booker, and Brunetta Roberts.

Left to cherish his memory are four brothers: Charles Cooper (Gwinnette) of Charlotte, NC; Fred Cooper (Roberta) of Baton Rouge, LA; Jerry Cooper of Shreveport, LA; Melvin Cooper of Baton Rouge, LA; five sisters: Faye Levenston (Willie) of Portsmouth, VA; Ola Richards and Shirley Thomas (W.C.) of Dallas, TX; Hattie George of Cedar Hill, TX; Brenda Johnson of San Antonio, TX and many special nieces, nephews, cousins, classmates and friends.

Honoring Joe as pallbearers were his nephews Trevor Cooper, Creston Cooper, Corey Emecheta, Matthew Emecheta, Robert George Jr and Vidal Johnson.
